VGC communications

VGC Communications Ltd. (VGC Comm) was established in April 1995, with the primary objective of providing all the communications services required by Victoria Garden City residents and the Ikota Shopping complex.  This unique addition to the exclusive Garden City served to immeasurably enhance the quality of life and upgrade business activities in the Lekki peninsula and in Lagos in general.
H.F.P. initially signed an agreement with NITEL, the Nigerian telecommunications company, to bring fiber optic cables from Victoria Island, 15km away, for 2,000 phone lines. VGC Comm laid communication infrastructure to the doorstep of every single house. The result: high quality, durable and fast telephone, data and internet connections for every customer.
By the end of 1998, VGC Comm decided to take advantage of its fiber optic infrastructure, beginning the expansion of its operations base to provide telecommunications services to the Professional Center in Victoria Island.
Early in 1999, VGC Comm was granted a Private Network Links License, which allows it to provide telecommunication services anywhere in Nigeria. It also won licenses for cabling, community telephones, Internet, payphones, prepaid cards, voice mail, and a VSAT License allowing it to provide international gateway and satellite bandwidth services.
VGC Comm’s strong subscriber access network, using standard digital transmission technology, offers a wide range of features to meet the specific needs of its subscribers. These include all the functions of state-of-the-art phone systems, a high-speed data communications service (based on VGC Comm’s own private copper and fiber optic infrastructure) and point-to-point and point-to-multipoint services, connecting different sites and offices with private data connections.
At each branch location, through sophisticated switching equipment, VGC Comm provides digital subscriber lines (DSL) using existing copper networks, terminating at the subscriber end with data customer premises equipment (CPE).
All these advanced technologies and others enable VGC Comm to offer an extensive range of smarter, simpler, faster, more reliable, fully secure and scalable broadband solutions.
VGC Comm provides the full range of Internet services, dial-up, and web hosting, and integrates voice and data technology to create and support all the conditions required for speech and data communications.
Since 2000, VGC Comm has concentrated on providing quality and comprehensive services to large multinational corporate customers such as oil giants Chevron and Shell, 57 banks, including First Bank and the Standard Chartered Bank, foreign embassies such as the American and Russian Embassies and the British High Commission, international airlines such as Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and Air France, and local hotels.
Customer services and satisfaction are high on the VGC Comm agenda. Computers and technologies are never allowed to blur the fact that the company is serving the Nigerian people. As well as perfecting the science of communication, it seems that VGC Comm have also mastered the art of human service.
The company is directly interconnected with mobile GSM operators, and with other private telephone operators, to provide the added benefit of faster and better call completion.
It has two maintenance offices, in Victoria Garden City and in Victoria Island. The offices are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Network maintenance is 24 hours, while field-related maintenance is normally carried out between 8am and 6pm, seven days a week.
VGC Comm is expanding its activities throughout the country. Today, VGC Comm is already providing high quality services in major parts of Lagos State, Abuja and Rivers State, Port Harcourt. All three major locations are linked by satellite.
Amongst VGC Comm’s wider objectives are to offer Nigerians ‘real world’ prices for international phone calls, and to bring international companies better, cutting-edge communication services. The vision is holistic and the investment long-term.
VGC Comm’s commitment to revolutionise the telecommunications industry in Nigeria, and its investment in high quality services to Nigerian businesses and individual communities, continues to grow from day to day.
For example, in 2004, VGC Comm upgraded the software version of its Siemens EWSD exchange from Version 12 to Version 16, which offers far superior subscribers and network features.
Within only 10 years, VGC Comm has become synonymous with reliable, quality services, razor-edge technology and the pursuit of excellence in all its endeavors.
VGC Comm has become a major leader in the Nigerian communications industry, specializing in installing and maintaining advanced equipment and a comprehensive range of communication services, including:
  • Conventional digital voice telephone services.
  • High-speed data communications services
  • Intra and inter-city networking.
  • Internet services, dial-up, and web hosting.
  • Digital Subscriber Line services (integrated voice and data-services).
  • Domestic VSAT services, including a satellite connection between Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.
VGC Communications was sold to telecommunications Giant MTN in 2006 as a going concern.
